National Camp

Intensive training with the country's best — where teams are forged.

What it is

A residential or online training camp (or series of camps) for selected students. Instruction focuses on olympiad problem solving and experimental skills. [TO VERIFY — does Nepal run a national training camp, and for how long?]

Eligibility

  • Students selected through the national selection rounds. [TO VERIFY]

Format & timeline

  • Daily lectures and problem sessions. [TO VERIFY]
  • Mock theory and lab exams modelled on the international olympiad. [TO VERIFY]

When: Typically [TO VERIFY — months and duration] before the international round.

Syllabus & topics

Full international-olympiad syllabus: deeper mechanics (Lagrange/Hamilton at a basic level), electromagnetism with vector calculus, thermodynamics and statistical ideas, modern physics, and the experimental syllabus.

Mechanics
Oscillations, rigid body, gravitation, small oscillations.
Electromagnetism
Electrostatics/magnetostatics with integrals, induction, AC.
Thermodynamics
Full thermodynamics, kinetic theory, basics of statistics.
Modern physics
Quantum basics, atomic/nuclear physics calculations.
Experimental
Uncertainty analysis, graphing, writing lab reports, common instruments.

Preparation strategy

  1. During camp

    30+ (full-time) h/week
    • Do every assigned problem — struggle first, then discuss.
    • Reproduce lab measurements and compute uncertainties by hand.
  2. After camp

    12–15 h/week
    • Rewrite weak topics from scratch; teach a junior as a test of understanding.
    • Start solving IPhO-level past papers under exam conditions.

Resources for this stage

  • The Feynman Lectures on Physics (free online)

The complete three-volume classic, free and legal online. Excellent for building physical intuition beyond the school syllabus.
